Tucker's Inferno===
Annotated Review #3
Annotated Link: http://www.diigo.com/09u0b
Taylor Lehr
Summary: This article basically sums up what womens rights groups and a selct few of others think about Max. It also talks about the oppoite spectrum of what people think of Tucker Max as well. In this article it talks about how Max is attending one of his book signings at Duke University. While at the signing he made a couple of jokes and shared a couple of his recent stories to his many supporters and yeling at all the protestors. THe protestors that were there are womens rights groups that believe Tucker Max is sexist and a rapist. Meanwhile his fans who look up to him as an idol, tried to out do Tucker by sharing their stories. It also tells how Max stands up for his values and calls one of his fans out for being wrong in what he did. In this article it talks about some of the effects he has had on a few specific supporters of his and how the author thinks this has had a negative effect on American society.
Response: I believe that that there are way more people in America, in the world even, who look up to Tucker Max as an idol than the people who look down on him as a sexist and rapist. I think these women rights groups make overexaggerated claims about Max that are not true. In this artcle when it talks about how Tucker stood up and called out one of his fans that told a story of himself vandolizing property, as being wrong on so many levels, that it really says alot about Tucker. It shows that eventhough he usually does and says whatever he wants without thinking about the consequences, that even Tucker has his limits. I think that people miss out on the true effect that Tucker has on society, which is that he instills confidence in people around the world. This confidence that he instills can be applied to any real world situation like asking your boss for a raise, asking a girl out on a date, or even just letting go and having a good time.
Usefullnss: This article will allow me to show both sides of wht people think about Tucker Max, however I will mainly focus on the positive effects Tucker has on society as a leader in a social media community. This will also let me show how Tucker actually has values and that he uses his website and his community as well as twitter to instill confidence in his followers.
Summary: In this article, they explain a few examples of different celebrities using social networking sites, such as Twitter. The celebrities that were used as examples were Shaquille O'Neal, Britney Spears, Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, and others. There were various reasons as to why these celebrities use Twitters on a regular basis. Tina Fey supposedly had an account on Twitter and talked about very personal information yet when she found out that someone was posing as her on Twitter, she thought it was a very humorous thing to do. The person who was posing as her on Twitter was talking about Tina Fey's family issues and her personal views on the presidential election and yet more than 30,000 people were following her "truthfulness" posts on this social networking sites. Another example would be Shaquille O'Neal and his Twitter account. The only reason why he is frequently posting his 140 character blogs on Twitter is because of his personal fraudulent problem on social networking sites. Before he personally started posting blogs, someone was posing this celebrity basketball player and became a problem for him and his publicist. It was so intense to the point where they thought he should sue Twitter for allowing these frauds to happen yet, to prevent this problem to keep occuring, they thought that he should just update daily on his own personal Twitter so no one can make up personal information on his behalf. These were just two examples of celebrities whom are having identity issues on social networking sites and it still is occurring to celebrities throughout the World Wide Web.
Response: This article on Forbes.com was a perfect resource to my inquiry research paper. When I first thought of my inquiry topic, it was pretty broad and general yet this broad and general topic helped me define what I really was going to research about. My topic at first was about the effects of general identity problems on Facebook and now, it is about how social networking sites, such as Twitter, effect the media and how it is not a reliable enough source to use throughout the news media such as E! and celebrity news magazines. I thought that this article really gave me good examples as to why Twitter is increasing in size towards the celebrity demographic. There are many reasons as to why so many celebrities use social networking sites like connecting with fans, preventing identity fraud online, and more. Before reading this article, I had no idea that such problems were happening on Twitter and other social networking sites and after reading this article, now I know.
Usefulness: This text was very useful towards my inquiry research paper because it really helped me understand the actual problems of the media and celebrity identities.
Social Media revolution
Liz Collier
Summary:
In this article, the author, Matt Warman, describes the advantages and disadvantages of social media revolution. Matt argues that web doesn’t bring people together like many other web evangelists argue that it does bring people closer. An example of this is Lindsay, a facebooker, who complained about her boss via facebook and was fired because of it. Now if Lindsay had complained to her Human resources department was would have been given empathy but instead lost her job. While in most case the internet allows room for honesty and openness. But until society as realizes what to do with social media will these websites such as; twitter, myspace and facebook become profitable and needed.
Response:
This article was very sensible in the claims made. It was interesting to hear that Lindsay was fired due to her complaint about her boss via social media. Shouldn’t that be freedom of speech, are our rights being tested in the realm of social media are there consequences for our activities on the internet. The social networking tips were extremely helpful for possible new social media activity. The Benefit of Using Social Networking Sites for Recruiting
Review by Saam Anwer http://www.diigo.com/09ieb
Summary
This article is about how networking benefits recruiters so that they can get more people to join their cause. Using networking sites such as facebook or twitter recruiters can easily reach out to many more people that they can't reach without networking. also through social networking recruiters have the ability to find out more about a person though the information that they have provided on their social media sites. Recruiting through networking can be very difficult at the same time because there are millions and millions of people that use those sites and it can be very hard to narrow down candidates for the jobs that they are being recruited for. Many people that are approached by these recruiters on these networking sites may not want to be approached, but many actually do like to be approached and offered these deals. They author is trying to encourage recruiters to use social media as a way to reach out a much bigger audience and she is also trying to convince the readers that people join these networking sites because they want to network.
Response
There are a lot of questions that ran through my mind as I read this article. First off the author only pin pointed the benefits of recruiting through social networking sites, so are there any dangers presented by recruiters on the internet? Also why can't recruiters find another means of recruiting people instead of judging them off first impression of what they have provided on their social media sites? I was fascinated by the techniques used by recruiters to hire people that they feel are well qualified for the jobs that are being recruited for. What better way to find something out about someone than reviewing their life through the web.
Usefulness
I learned from this article that there are many benefits that recruiting offers through social networking. this text supports my research by highlighting the importance of information given on the networking sites and how recruiters can find out almost anything about a person.

Summary: The article ”The globalization of media” is about the effects of media in different parts of the world. It starts off talking about the discussion over Facebook in Indonesia, for Muslim users. The largest Islamic organization criticized Facebook saying, it was for flirting or illicit affairs. Ultimately the organization wants to change the Facebook format for Muslim users.
The article goes on to mention a scandal with Twitter during the German elections. Two German government representatives posted tweets on their twitter accounts declaring the winner of the presidential election 15 minutes before the result was made public.
It also says that social networks are growing, Twitter went from 1.6 million users to 32 million in one year. With this growth come uses for communities like Twitter, for example it was used in Costa Rica after a large earthquake hit to help set up support networks for people living there. Similarly it was used to keep the world informed when there was a violent uprising in Madagascar. Another use for Twitter was introduced by political activists trying to keep people interested in the European parliament elections.
The article then diverges into talking about the profitability of such social networking websites as Facebook or Twitter. Response: It is fascinating to think about that so many other people in the world are using the same networking website as I am. A lot of the time one doesn’t realize how many other users are online with you. It seems that Facebook and Twitter can be amazing tools for certain situations, like helping people communicate that are stuck because of natural disasters. There is also a problem that I can see with the globalization of these medias, as we saw the article state. There are different social attitudes in different countries, things that are okay to do in our society might be taboos in another society. Does this mean that Facebook will have to change its format for those countries? Also there is a question of privacy as we can see in the example of Germany. Should there be stricter regulations on what one can post on Twitter? Usefulness: I think this text was pretty useful, it gave an insight into what affects social medias could have in different societies. If I decide to write my final paper about the cause and effect of social medias and Globalization, I think this would be a good article to get me started.

How Sharing Positive Events Helps Society
Summary:
This article presents data through studies, that examine intrapersonal and interpersonal consequences of telling our stories to others. This is also known as capitalization, the process of sharing our stories with others. It also talks about the benefits of sharing our experinces, on the different aspects of our lives such as our mood and self esteem. It also says that by sharing our experiences we are able to develop more relationships by having more positive social interactions. In this article they produce evidence from various sources that show the benefits of our experiences being shared.
Response:
When I was asked to choose a inquiry topic based on social media I wanted to write about the positive effects or benefits of sharing our stores or experiences with others. I knew that by sharing our experiences it benefits the people whom which we share, but I didn't know how exactly it benefitted them. This article was very interesting in the fact that it presented so many ways that sharing our ideas helped our well being. I thought to relate the to social media because every where we look online we find examples of people sharing their positive experiences with others. One individual in particular who uses social media extremely well to share his positive experiences is Tucker Max. He has a wesite on which he posts stories of his life. He now has written a book and has produced a movie. He has used social media in every way to share his stories. This is also evidence of how sharing stories benefits our well being because many people as well as myself find his writings on his website uplifting. He now has a whole community that follows his stories. Although this article doesn't specify that it is talking about social media, you can carry on the same principles of sharing online that you can of sharing in person. Although this article talks about the benefits of sharing with other people, it doesn't really talk about the consequences of sharing your stories. This article did however present the reasons why some people choose not to share their experiences with others and that is because they are afraid of negative feedback, rejection, or defensiveness. These reasons are probably also the consequences if you choose to share an experience that some people might not think is positive events. I share many of my stories with others ignoring the consequences because I only look at the benefits of sharing my stories. This is only true if you share true stories, and I always stick to the truth.
Usefulness:
After reading this article I will be able to show the benefits, as well as the consequences of sharing our stories as well as events. You can see people doing this all over the internet on websites such as twitter, facebook, tuckermax, and youtube. This is a very valuable article for my topic because it breaks down the benefits and shows the specific reasons for sharing stories.
What is twitter, and why does it keep following me around
Leola Reed
SUMMARY: This article is basically about how twitter functions. Its tellin everyone how to use it and what its used for. Its pretty much a way to let everyone know where your at and what your doing every second of your day. People can find out what other people are doing or where there at simply by looking at their page. One of the points that the author makes is how you or someone else can post something, and it will pop up all over twitter, like on your page all your friends pages and just the whole twitter itself.
RESPONSE: When reading this article I learned pretty much the whole idea of twitter and why it was made. In the beginning it was used for business purposes, as a way to connect wit co-workers easier, but then it turned into a social thing and now everyone is on it like they do facebook, or myspace. I feel that the usage of twitter is getting out of hand, and people are starting to abuse it. There are so many ways for someone to find out exactly where someone is at and what there doing just by a click of a button, and people are starting to use that to their advantage. Its cool to talk to your friends and be social, but whats the limit? like really. Its a great way to find out what your friends are doing or going to do, but to a certain extent. I used to have a twitter but I couldnt fully understand what twitter was about so I just deleted it, but Im kind if glad I dont have one any more because I been hearing all the negative aspects of twitter.
USEFULNESS: I would like to know more about why people are so addicted to twitter and tweet everything they do, whenever they do it, and why has it become so popular. Its kind of the same thing as Facebook, and Myspace so why are people so in love with twitter. This article can be useful to my topic because it explains everything about twitter, and helps me further know what its all about.

Summary: The article, " What Is RSS?" tells about how RSS was first created to improve the use of updates of websites sent to users e-mail. With RSS they were able to go to a RSS aggregator with all updates in order and neat rather than unorganized in e-mail. Another point that was made was that for each RSS aggregator or programs the user can add all their favorite websites to it in all one place.
Response: Questions that were raised is how long have people been using RSS. I've always noticed the little orange button but never knew what it was. Another question that was raised how has it change the world of news and how people retrieve their news? Does it have a wordly impact? If so, how does it connect to social media on a world wide basis?
Usefulness: I would like to know more about who created RSS, how they created it and the evolution of feeds from when it was started to now, its advances. http://www.diigo.com/09fcu
**Why Twitter Is So Addicting**
LEOLA REED
SUMMARY: The article is simply ,about how before twitter was not included in the social media, but then people started re-evaluating it and now twitter is considered a social community too. Even though you can make a page and create your background, all you can really do is post your status and reply to others. It is also "Integrate-able" as far as setting it up to other communities such as myspace, or facebook, and no other site allows you to do that. The author talks about how "it is currently quite popular", which is simply because twitter is useful to some people, as well as fun, but its really there so people can update their status's, and share their current mood so others can see what their doing. Its easier ito access twitter because you can easily link it to any device you carry or have updates sent
to your email, therefore, its convient for many people.
RESPONSE: When i read this article it was intersting to know that twitter has many different features, unlike facebook, or myspace. I am however, a little confused on why people would want other people knowing what their doing everyday, all day? I also found it a little creepy to know that anyone can locate you by simply checking what your status says, but I guess some people are ok with that since they allow others to view it. Even though twitter seems cool, and fun and is a way for friends and family to communicate faster, it still raises questions. Like why its starting to get so popular when theres facebook, myspace, and other social communities to join, that will allow you to do the same thing as twitter.
USEFULNESS: This article is very useful to me because it answers some of the questions that I had about the usage of twitter and why everyone was starting to be "all" about twitter all of a sudden. It will also provide some great examples as well as ideas about twitter in general.
Summary:
This article talked about the negative effects of technology. It presented the idea that technology can be an addiction. In it the author says that use of cellphones can enhance our lives but overuse can complicate our lives. It talks about how doctors classify things as addictions. According to this article technology is now looked at as an abusive substance. It also says that genetics plays a big role in reasons why people abuse substances. The author also says that the reason we start using these things is because they are cool and fun. It mainly talks about cell phones but also mentions the internet, games, and TV. It also says that people use their cell phones as a coping device when faced in unfamiliar situations.
Response:
This article presented the other side of social media. It shows the negative effects of social media and technology. The last article I annotated looked at the positive effects of social media and how it benefits us. The main point that this article was that technology can be addicting and that we should stray away from becoming addicted. The point that I like the most was that many people use their phones as a coping mechanism well dealt with unfamiliar situations. I can't relate to this on a personal level but there has been so many times that I have seen people pull out their phones, and either start texting or pretend to text, in situations that are unfamiliar to them. Instead of dealing with the situation and being friendly or meeting people, most of the time people just pull out their phones and text or pretend to text. I think that this is ridiculous when people do this, it only shows their insecurity with themselves. I also think that technology can be addicting. Some people do not believe that technology is an addiction but I think in some cases it can be, for instance when people get addicted to online games such as the one we looked at in class called "There". In this case people get so addicted to the game that they have a hard time differentiating fantasy and reality. I think everyone has different problems which is the reason the become addicted to technology. Either they have difficulty dealing with reality like the people who play "There" or they or insecure like the people who pull out their cellphones in front of unfamiliar people or situations.
Usefullness:
With this article I wll be able to compare the benefits of technology with the detriments of it. I will also be able to talk specifically about the detriments of technology such as addiction and using it as a coping mechanism. This article has also expanded my topic. Before this I was going to tal about the benefits of haring positive events through social media butI realized that that topic was too general.

RSS Feeds
Summary: So in my first post I talked about what a RSS Feed and why it was created. In this article it tells of how RSS Feeds are in social networking. So it was first created to be an aid or organizational tool for their e-mail wouldn‘t be bombarded with millions of news updates . Now on every website I visit there is a RSS Feed icon asking to add the websites feed. When RSS Feeds first began the only major websites that used it was BBC and Guardian Unlimited, Yahoo! got it a little after. With RSS Feeds users can scan the website through the feed aggregator instead of searching through the whole website the feed automatically does it for you. RSS is used a lot on blogs, “Blogs only make sense with RSS readers," says Simon Waldman, director of digital publishing for Guardian Newspapers”. RSS is use for blog updates it makes it very easy for a user to click on their feed aggregator rather than search through blogs to find the one they want.
Response: After learning more and more about this topic makes me want to download an aggregator for my own use. I think its great how this new application was first created to use organize just things that were sent to your e-mail and know it evolved to organized this of interest on the internet. After being used for more than used 10 years will their be a new application created that will eliminate the use of RSS Feeds?
LEOLA REED
Five Reasons Twitter is an Essential Social Media Tool
SUMMARY: This artice is pretty much talking about how Twitter is considered a social media and it gives different ways as to how it is. The author talks about 3 different cases in which Twitter can be useful. You can use Twitter to promote your social bookmarking submissions, which is a way to keep tabs on people who respond when you ask for votes, You can use Twitter to boost your blog, basically sending out a Tweet with a link to your latest blog post, and its a great way for blog topics, and the author also says Twitter is networking gold, in other words its a easy way to listen to people talk about building blocks or viral campaigns.
RESPONSE: After reading so many articles about Twitter, I find this one the most interesting. Not only is the author explaining how Twitter works and how its a way to communicate with friends, its also a great business type of site. There seem to be other things to do on Twitter than just talking to friends or family about what you did that day or something. It really helps when your in the business world and you want to explore Twitter and find things that have to do with business stuff, and I was once told that Twitter was created mainly for business people. Which means maybe Twitter is not so bad after all. It seems to have great sources I just think people my age (teenagers) abuse it, and use it for nonsense purposes.
USEFULNESS: This article is useful in so many ways, it helps me further my knowledge about Twitter and how it functions, and it also answers my inquiry question with a great amount of detail.

Negative Effects of Technology

Usefulness: This article is very useful for my inquiry because it talks about the social aspect of RSS Feeds and how it is used in blogs.
